Golf: A Course of Philosophy
At RED l’agence, there are several who are quite adept at golf. What can we say- no one’s perfect. Golf is not simply a sport but also an exercise in discipline that requires a great deal a time. This activity requires a series of complex athletic movements that are perhaps only surpassed by those of competitive figure skating. The existence of a television channel devoted entirely to golf is a testament to how serious golfers can be about this sport. A book about the game has been written by a professor of philosophy, Louis Godbout. Godbout’s book, titled Du golf, parcours philosophique is a work that describes the process of the golfer in the game of golf. Louis Godbout is neither a golf pro nor even a golf fanatic but someone who has been familiar with the game of golf since his childhood (golfing with his grandmother), and he sees golf as having a type of philosophical logic to it. In short, the game of golf is about relationships: of the golfer with his- or her-self, with others, with the landscape, with nature and with the score card. It’s a kind of Tai Chi; about the achievement of perfection of movement towards the goal of reaching nirvana.
